Please join us for our Standing Together 2020 event planned to take place on July 24, 2020 at 6pm at 55 Hilda Street.
This event marks 4 years since the death of Abdirahman Abdi at 55 Hilda. It also marks the end of the trial of Ottawa Police Officer Daniel Montsion who was charged with manslaughter, aggravated assault and assault with a weapon in relation to the death of Abdirahman.
Abdirahman’s death was a tragedy that left our city shaken but inspired many to action. Several positive legacies have emerged from these Standing Together events including a beautiful memorial plaque at the entrance of 55 Hilda and the creation of the Justice for Abdirahman Scholarship for Social Justice. We have recently hit $10,000.00 in the scholarship pot and are hoping to raise another $30,000.00 to fund an endowment. You can contribute directly at firstname.lastname@example.org
The program will include brief welcoming remarks from leaders across this city and never before heard words from the family of Abdirahman.
Refreshments will be available.
Please note that while masks are not required in outdoor spaces, you are encouraged to wear one for the safety of all. Sanitization stations will also be available.
