Magee House Weekly Update from the City – August 2nd, 2019

Good news: progress on opening up our Magee Sidewalk. Please see the text of the latest update from the City of Ottawa.

Weekly update: Magee House (1119 Wellington West)

August 2, 2019

Early in July, the City set a deadline of Friday, August 2 for the property owner of Magee House to complete ongoing stabilization work. As that deadline has passed, the City will revoke encroachment permits for the site under the authority of the City’s Encroachment Bylaw.

With the permits revoked, the City will look to remove the temporary fencing as soon as it is
safe to do so. The City has been in contact with the owner, the contractor and the engineer that prepared the stabilization plan and should be in a position to have work resume next week. The City will contract the remaining stabilization work and bill the owner for that work.

Stabilization would likely be completed in about three to four weeks, which would allow us to remove fencing and restore full public access to both the roadway and the sidewalk. The City hopes to restore at least a portion of the right of way before bracing work is fully complete.

The City will continue to provide updates until the sidewalk is reopened to pedestrians.
