HCA Statement of Commitment – Anti-Racism and Safety

The Hintonburg Community Association expresses heartfelt condolences to the family of Abdirahman Abdi after a disappointing verdict. We cannot do better in addressing institutionalized and system racism in this country without taking a hard look at the institutions and systems in this country that delivered this verdict.

We call for more community-based mental health supports in Hintonburg and throughout the City of Ottawa and we support efforts that will move this agenda forward. We will be actively participating in the consultations led by Councillor Rawlson King and the Anti-Racism and Ethnocultural Relations secretariat this Fall.

The Hintonburg Community Association is committed to working on safety and security and anti-racism issues and board members have worked closely with the JFA Coalition, Police Services, Health Services and Community groups so that as a society we address systemic racism and police interventions.  By working together, we create the community that we want to live in.
