The Hintonburg Community Association is hosting a very special general membership meeting and social on Thursday June 13th at 7-9pm at the Hintonburg Community Centre.
There are two goals for the gathering:
1. Membership vote to update the HCA’s Constitution:
A new Ontario law (the Ontario Not-for-Profit Corporations Act or “ONCA”) comes into effect in October that imposes new rules on all Ontario-registered non-profits including the HCA. We are changing our constitution to comply with this law and making some other minor revisions and improvements. This includes changes to:
- Who can be a voting member
- Rules for HCA Board members
- Roles of HCA officers
- Changes to how decisions are made
- Additions related to diversity and required additions on dissolution and insurance eligibility

We need to have at least 30 HCA members in good standing to vote in-person OR vote in advance in order to have a quorum for this vote.

2. Social time + engage with HCA Board members on topics of interest:
We usually hold only one member meeting a year, our AGM in September. However, the meeting is focused on reporting on HCA work and there isn’t time at that meeting to have many meaningful conversations on topics of interest.
For this general meeting, we are making time to socialize with a few light refreshments. Most of the Board Members & Committee Chairs will be there and you can chat with them about topics on your mind relating to Hintonburg.
