We have long been working with Hintonburgers to organize and run a number of special events, some recurring and others one-offs, since our inception as a community association.
Often, in collaboration with elected and city officials and other stakeholders, meetings are convened to us all address an acute situation or issue. These may be related to development, zoning, crime, traffic or any number of topics.
As well, we have recurring activities that have grown over the years into being passionately anticipated events in our neighbourhood. These include the following:
This is typically run in mid-to-late July of every year. The event attracts hundreds runners and walkers for the timed race and dozens of children for the 1k fun run. Run or walk through one of the greatest neighbourhoods in the city to the cheers of our enthusiastic residents and great crew of volunteers.
Ottawa Race Weekend Cheering Station
Literally 20,000 runners race through Hintonburg and West Wellington every May, and we’re here to cheer them on. Featuring upbeat music, the Hintonburg cheering station is recognized as one of the most spirited in the city.
Kids in the community shouldn’t have to visit a shopping mall to give their wish-list in person to Santa. Each year, in early December, Hintonburg Community Centre staff and the HCA put on the Kringle event with arts and crafts, snacks and free photos with Saint Nick.
Street Hockey Tournament
Every spring we close selected streets and residents bring the game. In the spirit of shinny, a low-key, family-friendly, just for fun event to determine the ‘Burg’s hottest street hockey team
Movies are shown on selected summer Saturday evenings in the parking lot of the Hintonburg Community Centre.
Rest assured that as all of your events approach, they are tweeted out, announced in our e-newsletter and in prominent placement on the home page of our website.
